Lazarevskoye is an agricultural enterprise of the Tula region, located 50 km south of the city of Tula. As of April 2022, the main activities are the production and processing of agricultural products of crop production and animal husbandry.

History

2023: Pigs in Russia began to be weighed with video cameras. How it saves 50 million rubles a year

The Lazarevskoye agricultural complex, the largest breeding farm in the Tula region (has 60 thousand pigs, a meat processing plant for 10 thousand tons of meat per year, a crop production workshop with an area of 25 thousand hectares, a feed mill) has developed a technology using artificial intelligence algorithms that weighs pigs using video cameras and determines their level of health. The company claims that the system helps to save about 50 million rubles annually. The successful implementation of the project pushed enterprises to its commercial launch, Leonid Komionko, project manager of Lazarevskoye TECH, said in August 2023.

According to him, the system includes four modules:

  • weight measurement;
  • identification of pigs;
  • Recognizing patterns of behavior
  • image selection.

Step by step, this looks like this: the first step is to search for a frame with a good location. Next comes the determination of the position of the pig - that is, we determine the top and bottom of the pig. The third step is to search for a contour. And the fourth is segmentation. Then all this information is transmitted to the weight prediction module and is already processed. As a result, we can see that the accuracy of the module is superior to any livestock specialist and this gives us large financial gains, "Komionko explained.

He also said that for the implementation of the project, a datacet was created from video data for 100 days of fattening pigs, more than 1000 personnel was manually marked, algorithms were developed for automatic marking of video recordings and research work was carried out to train artificial intelligence to determine the weight of pigs.

The representative of the Lazarevskoye agricultural complex said that the introduction of the system allows reducing the feed conversion rate, increasing the safety of livestock, since animals do not experience stress due to regular weighing, do not lose weight and get sick less, which is one of the most serious factors that affects the process of raising animals.
