2015: Autodesk held a master class

February 3, 2015 it became known about the visit of Autodesk representatives to the Polytechnic University.

In the fall of 2014, Polytechnic University and Autodesk signed a cooperation agreement as part of a strategic partnership in education.

"Access to free versions of Autodesk software gives students the opportunity to work on full-featured versions of the product," said Yu.S. Zolotova, Assistant of the Civil Engineering Institute of SPBPU University about the opportunities offered by strategic partnership. - In those versions that can be downloaded from sites (if they are translated into Russian), often some commands work incorrectly. But our students work on an official product that performs all the functions that the market requires, there are no restrictions in the version. Versions are provided for three years, after which you can renew your subscription - that is, the student constantly has access to new versions of software products. When he graduates from university and comes to the company, he will have to work on exactly the same full-featured versions of the product. Thus, it is easy for our graduates to adapt - these are absolutely "adult" specialists who are completely ready to work in the industry. "

Since 2015, SPbPU, under the current agreement, has joined the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN) program. The main advantage of the program is that its participants learn about the latest Autodesk developments and technologies before they even enter the market. In this regard, on February 3, the Polytechnic University hosted a master class by Jim Quonsey, senior director of the ADN division from the USA: "New 3D reality: the next generation of web services using engineering content."

Talking about the opportunities given to students by the ADN program, E.I. Tuchkevich, director of the Autodesk Polytechnic MONC and head of the Autodesk PBX, noted that this program is intended for software developers who need proven technologies and tools that can expand the basic capabilities of Autodesk products and help create effective solutions for design, design and the entertainment industry. "Now is the time when production efficiency, namely in CAD systems, Media Entertainment (entertainment industry), is reaching new frontiers. Also at the beginning of the 21st century, the growing needs in the field of cloud services are on the agenda, which make it possible to parallel test many project options in combination with work at any time and from anywhere, which makes the interaction of specialists more effective, "Evgenia Ivanovna outlined the conceptual directions for using Autodesk technologies. The report continued with information about the target audience, which industries cover Autodesk products, and the Autodesk Online Application Store, where you can show your work, buy, and offer your software globally.

V.M. Tuchkevich, assistant at VISH IITU, in his report "Application of Web GL technology in modern web applications" explained the essence of interactive 3D visualization and spoke about Web GL technology and the Tree.js software library, which make it possible to visualize 3D models in modern browsers.

After that, ADN Senior Director Jim Quoncy conducted a master class on Autodesk's new cloud service and the capabilities it gives programmers and designers.

Jim Quonsey noted: "When we talk about Autodesk working with the cloud service, we primarily mean the models that engineers and designers create. Today you can consider a 3D model of anything - for example, the building you want to build, or the house you plan to purchase. You no longer have to waste time going and looking at it, you can see everything on a 3D model. And this can be done in any browser, on a phone, tablet, laptop. Our job is to empower people to use 3D models online. It's like magic - and it's simple!. "

During the master class, Jim Quonsey invited those present to gain experience in working with three-dimensional reality - to compare the usual plan and 3D model of the building, walk along the three-dimensional model and go through the walls of the Polytechnic Hydromachine, "disassemble for spare parts" the domestic tractor, create a web page and upload a 3D model of the robot from the catalog of three-dimensional images. Mr. Quonsey made some nice gifts, the most unusual of which is Google Cardboard. This is a virtual reality simulation project using homemade cardboard glasses, into which any modern smartphone is inserted. The smartphone divides the picture into a stereo pair and even tracks the position of the head.
